Rockin’ Ron has been involved with community radio for over seven years having first started as a guest presenting a weekly cricket report and over time progressed to being a co-host and finally a presenter. He has been involved with sport, either as a player or administrator, for nearly 45 years and his travels have taken him from Sydney, where he was born and raised, to Adelaide, to the Shoalhaven, then the Illawarra and now Canberra where he has lived and worked since 2000. On the sporting field he has played football, rugby league, tennis, squash, the odd game of bowls and, last but by no means least, cricket (outdoor and indoor) and has represented the ACT at master’s level in both cricket and squash.
Obviously, sport is a major interest and takes up most of his time but Ron also has a very eclectic taste in music, mainly from the 1960s to the 1980s and he just loves Aussie music and believes that we have produced some of the best music in the world.
Ron’s show focuses on local sports from the Tuggeranong Valley and surrounds but covers anything interesting from anywhere in the world. The show features guests from local sporting bodies who provide listeners with news from their local clubs. Of course the show also provides some musical interludes with an effort to link these songs to the various sports.
