Something Old, Something New, Something Blue in Country with Fran Bush

Fran grew up in Wagga Wagga and her parents played classical music when she was a child.  Once a week on a Saturday night, the Smokie Dawson program went to air for one hour and Fran and her sister used to listen to this show before going to sleep as it was a nice diversion from continual classical music.  That was the start of her country music enjoyment.

Fran spent part of her senior school years (in the early 60s) as a boarder at Canberra Girls Grammar School (the days of Elvis, the Big O, Gene Pitney, Patsy Cline – and the list goes on).  As there was little to do on the weekend the boarders would use the common room to play their favourite records.  Hence, diversifying from Country music to a degree, but enjoying this music immensely.

In 1994, Fran co-ordinated the Nelligen Country Music Festival.  Preparations were made months in advanced.  There was a new radio station just starting out and started by well known Country Music Presenter, Ron Eskridge  (AKA Esso).  Esso interviewed Fran regarding the Festival.  After the interview, he asked her if she would be interested in becoming a presenter on Countrylife 91.1 FM.  Fran agreed and started as a presenter in February, 1995.  Apart from a two year break between 2011 – 2013 she has been enjoying  “moonlighting” as a presenter on community radio.
