John’s musical interests cover music from his misspent youth with a preference for music from the decades of the 40s and 50s through to 2020.
John hails from Liverpool in England where he was involved in the local music scene in his late teens. In 1962 he went to Hamburg in Germany to work at the Star-Club along with many others from Liverpool. In late 1963 he joined Sounds Incorporated as road and tour manager. The Sounds were signed by Brian Epstein and spent quite a few year as the opening act for the Beatles who had all been friends long before they became famous.
In 1971 John moved to Australia where he worked for both EMI and Polygram Records, then in a music shop. He also spent a few years as a front-of-house soundman at Twin Towns in Tweed Heads. Then in 1988 John moved to Canberra to manage Abels Records in Manuka until his retirement in 2008. To quote John Lennon “I might have been born in Liverpool – but I grew up in Hamburg.”
